Our house

Welcome to our current home....

Anyone who lives in a older home will appreciate the nuances of living in smaller spaces. There is something very satisfying about having separate rooms or areas for different aspects of living. One of the best things is how separate spaces can contain mess and chaos and compartmentalise areas of your life, so you can keep on keeping on. There have been some days where I knew the boys games room looked like it had been nuked, but then I could happily move on the next tidy room and revel in the calm of everything being in its place.

That is all about to change!

The notion of open plan living is an interesting one, that can be rewarding if it suits the way you live. We are now moving into the 'need more space' stage of our lives, and to do this means getting rid of all these lovely walls that have held my life and chaos together as it were!

I am going to miss having walls, but I am know I am going to love having space and light.

Here are some memories that I have captured to remind myself of the beauty of walls - be it a place to have a favourite work of art, or a space all of my own.

Dear walls, may you be gone, but never forgotten...

One of my favourite spots in our house is right here. You can see the living room and get glimpses of the study and bookshelf. The winter sun also streams in at just the right angle to lighten what could be a much darker space because of the surrounding walls. I often curl up on the benches in the dining nook.
